Tom Walter Wake Forest

In 1996, Tom Walter of Wake Forest became head coach at George Washington University. Over eight seasons, he compiled a 273–181 record, becoming the program’s all-time winningest coach. In 2002, the team earned an NCAA tournament appearance, and he was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, 26 players signed professional contracts, including one who went on to reach Major League Baseball.

Tom Walter Wake Forest: Tom Walter is a Division I baseball coach and social impact leader with over 900 career wins at George Washington, New Orleans, and Wake Forest. His career has focused on more than just success on the field—every player he has coached has graduated and taken part in meaningful community service. At Wake Forest, his leadership helped the team achieve a No. 1 national ranking and multiple appearances in the NCAA tournament. Tom was born in New York and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. His values were shaped during his time in Washington, DC, while attending Georgetown University. There, he served as team captain during his junior and senior years, earned Big East All-Academic Team honors in 1990 and 1991, was named team MVP in his final season, and received freshman of the year recognition at the beginning of his collegiate career. After earning a degree in finance, Thomas Walter pursued an MBA at George Washington University. While completing his graduate studies, he tutored athletes in calculus, managed athletic equipment, and served as an assistant coach. During that season, the team won the Atlantic 10 championship and secured a place in the 1992 NCAA tournament.
